Criminal Justice B.S. Online Program FAQ

Enrollment and Registration

If you have earned at least 55 credits or an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice or related fields and have a GPA of 2.0 or greater, you are eligible to transfer to the CJBS Online degree completion program.

If you decide you want to attend on campus or in person courses, you will no longer be considered part of the online degree program. If you attend courses on campus, you also have the option to take courses online, but availability of online sections is not guaranteed. Tuition and fees described in this document apply to online students and may vary for in-person courses.

Online degree program students will not be required to come to campus. If you wish to access campus for use of the library or other services, you can obtain a John Jay College ID.  Online students must meet the same requirements as in person students to obtain a John Jay College id.

Courses and Academic Success

The CJBS online program is a guided degree completion program.  You will be able to select from 3-5 options for courses in each Criminal Justice B.S. degree component.  Visit here to see which courses are offered in what semesters.

You can earn your degree in two years if you enroll in and successfully complete 12 credits during the fall and spring semesters and 6 credits each summer.

Program Costs and Financial Aid

You can use the resources available at this website to determine the cost of your degree, and how financial aid or other sources of funding for your education fit in.

In state students pay $305 per credit. Out of state students pay 1.2X the in-state rate, or $350 per credit hour.

Yes, if you are eligible for Pell Grants (federal student aid) or TAP funds (NY State aid), you can use these to cover the costs of an online degree.

Students enrolled in 12 or more credits per semester will pay:

$75 infrastructure fee

$15 facilities fee

$125 technology fee

Part Time students pay a technology fee of $62.50

You will not be able to register for a new semester if you have an outstanding balance. For assistance covering the cost of your tuition, you should first meet with a financial aid officer who can provide you with ideas about how to manage education expenses.
