We're #1 in public colleges in NYC
Established in 1965 as the College of Police Science, John Jay College of Criminal Justice of the City University of New York proudly celebrates 60 years of educating fierce advocates for justice. Evolving into a premier liberal arts, justice-focused college, today we're recognized as the #1 college in the nation for criminal justice, forensic science and legal studies programs.
Our students are at the heart of this legacy. Passionate, driven and committed to justice, they engage in rigorous academics, hands-on research and real-world experiences that shape them into leaders in their fields. They embody the College’s mission and impact professions and policy reform across our city, country and world.
Our student success programs support academic achievement and career development and ensure success at John Jay and beyond. Initiatives such as the Honors Program, Completion for Upper-Division Student Program (CUSP), Program for Research Initiatives in Science & Math (PRISM), Accelerate, Complete Engage (ACE) and Search for Education, Elevation & Knowledge (SEEK) provide mentorship, financial assistance and curated advising to help students remain on track for degree completion. Internship and fellowship opportunities connect students with leading professionals, while career services prepare them for life beyond graduation. These programs create a strong foundation and empower graduates to thrive in competitive fields.
Our alumni are inspiring models for our students and serve as advocates for justice in public service, the legal profession, STEM industry, law enforcement, public safety, education, forensics, community organizations and more. We're ranked 6th in the nation for social mobility and our alumni are a testament to the transformative power of a John Jay education.
Our faculty members lead groundbreaking research that enhances their teaching and expands scholarly thought. Their work secures prestigious grants, informs national and global conversations on justice and drives meaningful social change. They provide students with exceptional education, mentorship and support, fostering a dynamic learning environment that prepares graduates for impactful and rewarding careers.
Our community of partners, stakeholders and supporters invests their generosity and thought leadership to fuel the pioneering interventions, innovations and resources needed for our robust student support programs. In celebration of our 60th anniversary, we invite you to join our 2025 Educating for Justice Gala and invest in student success today.
United by a commitment to justice, our faculty, students, staff, alumni and partners will propel John Jay into the next 60 years and beyond.
