Employer Advisory Council
The Employer Advisory Council at John Jay College of Criminal Justice provides essential guidance to the Career Learning Lab, ensuring its programs align with industry needs and enhance student outcomes. The Council offers expert advice, shares industry insights, and helps shape the Lab’s services to better serve students and employers.
Purpose
- Provide expert guidance to help the Lab meet its objectives.
- Bridge knowledge gaps in areas such as market trends, technology, and hiring practices.
Key Functions
- Share insights on industry trends, talent needs, and recruitment practices.
- Assist in tailoring the Lab’s services and refining messaging for students, employers, faculty, and administration.
While the Council’s advice is valuable, it remains non-binding and does not hold governance or financial decision-making authority.
Areas of Focus
- Career Preparation: Equip students with networking opportunities and industry insights.
- Curriculum Alignment: Ensure the curriculum meets current industry needs.
- Employer Engagement: Build relationships to increase internship and job opportunities.
Structure and Meetings: The Council consists of industry professionals, faculty, and students. Members serve two-year terms, with the possibility of extension. Meetings are held bi-monthly, typically in person but available virtually as needed.
Qualifications: Members should have 10–20 years of industry experience, hold mid to senior-level positions, and be connected to John Jay College. They must be committed to providing impartial advice and supporting the Lab’s mission.
