DOAR & John Jay Partner to Foster the Next Generation of Trial Consultants
John Jay College of Criminal Justice and DOAR, Inc., are thrilled to announce an expanded partnership made possible through DOAR’s generous investment in the academic and professional success of John Jay student scholars enrolled in the MA in Forensic Psychology and the Psychology & Law PhD Programs. The newly established DOAR Trial Consulting Partnership Fund will advance students’ knowledge of the trial consultancy field and build a robust pipeline of graduate students who want to make trial consultancy and/or jury research their careers. Additionally, this initiative will provide scholarship support and paid experiential opportunities for students that develop and hone the skills they need to enter and succeed in this vital industry. Key components of this inspiring partnership include:
- Three annual trial consulting workshops, co-hosted by DOAR and the Department of Psychology, to introduce students to the field.
- At least two annual Samuel H. Solomon Memorial Scholarships, named in honor of DOAR’s founder, Samuel “Sam” Solomon, augmenting funding first instituted in 2022.
- Research grants to support student-led scholarly inquiry.
- An annual summer internship opportunity for immersive professional development.
- An annual externship for students in the MA in Forensic Psychology Program.
- At least one annual PhD program colloquium to strengthen the link between scholarship and professional practice in trial consulting.
Dr. Allison Pease, John Jay provost, said, “John Jay is proud to partner with DOAR to prepare the next generation of forensic psychologists who will advance evidence-based jury research, enrich trial consulting and strengthen the foundation of our justice system.”
Dr. Margaret Bull Kovera, professor of psychology and director of the Psychology and Law PhD Program, is the faculty liaison for the transformative initiative. She will collaborate closely with Paul Neale, CEO of DOAR, and Dr. Natalie Gordon, a DOAR jury consultant who earned her PhD in psychology and law from the Graduate Center/John Jay College of Criminal Justice, to ensure the success of the partnership.
“DOAR has had a long, successful history with John Jay College. We are honored to partner with their faculty and students to further the study and practice of trial strategy consulting,” said Neale. “We see this as an opportunity to invest in the future of the profession by supporting students who will become tomorrow’s leaders in jury research and trial strategy consulting.”
John Jay is deeply grateful for DOAR’s investment, which strengthens the pipeline of trial consultants and jury researchers, and empowers the next generation of justice leaders in psychology and law.
