Mustafa Demir is an associate professor in the Department of Law, Police Science, & CJA. He holds three advanced degrees in criminal justice: two MAs and one PhD. He earned his PhD degree from Rutgers University in 2016 and MA degrees from Rutgers University in 2014 and John Jay college of Criminal Justice in 2010. With twenty years of law enforcement experience as a police administrator, he also worked for two international organizations, including the United Nations and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). He has more than twenty years of teaching experience, during which he has instructed a variety of courses to police officers, undergraduate and graduate students. He joined John Jay in Fall 2023 after seven years of work at State University of New York (SUNY) Plattsburgh. He is a pracademic police scholar, with more than 30 publications and 70 academic presentations. His publications have received about 400 citations so far.

Mustafa Demir's research interests primarily focus on a variety of policing issues including police body-worn cameras (BWC’s), legitimacy, procedural justice, police-citizen encounters, SQF (Stop-Question-Frisk), suicide, witness protection, terrorism, place and crime.
