The Department of Africana Studies is pleased to welcome Regina Bernard-Carreno, Ph.D., as Professor and Chair of the department. Her research focuses on issues of race, class, food inequality, narratives concerning the wellness of women of color, and engaged activism among New York City’s youth.

Center for Cybercrime Studies: Professor Marie-Helen Maras, Ph.D., the Center’s director, participated in a panel called “Getting ‘AI Ready’: Opportunities and Challenges.” The event, “Policing in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” was organized by the United Nations Inter-Agency Task Force on Policing in partnership with INTERPOL and hosted by the Permanent Mission of Finland.

Department of Modern Languages and Literatures: Cristina Lozano-Argüelles, Ph.D., assistant professor, has launched a new blog for Psychology Today called “The Bilingual Mind.”

Department of Philosophy: Alvin Kass, Ph.D., adjunct associate professor, has passed away. Kass was a member of the John Jay community for more than 12 years and served as a chaplain in the NYPD for 57 years.

Amy Adamczyk, Ph.D., won the Steven F. Messner Outstanding Book Award at the American Society of Criminology annual meeting in Washington, D.C., for her book Fetal Positions.
