Opening our doors in 1965 as the College of Police Science, John Jay College of Criminal Justice of the City University of New York proudly celebrates 60 years of educating fierce advocates for justice. Evolving into a premier, justice-focused college, today we're recognized as the #1 college in the nation for criminal justice, forensic science and legal studies programs.

Even in unpredictable times, we’re making headlining impact. Recognized as the #1 college in the nation for our criminal justice, forensic science and legal studies programs, we’re solving significant social problems. As 5th in the nation for sending Black applicants to law school and 15th for Hispanic applicants, we are powering the pipeline for careers in law through a justice lens. As 6th in the nation in social mobility, we are creating generational economic stability for individuals, families and communities.

Our students are at the heart of our legacy. Passionate, driven and committed to justice, they engage in rigorous academics, hands-on research and real-world experiences that shape them into leaders in their fields. Our transformational student success programs advance their academic achievement and career development and ensure success at John Jay and beyond. Initiatives such as the Honors Program, CUSP, PRISM, ACE and SEEK provide mentorship, financial assistance, curated advising and experiential learning opportunities to help them remain on track for degree completion and prepare them for life beyond graduation.

Our faculty members lead groundbreaking research that expands scholarly thought and enhances their teaching. Their work secures prestigious grants, informs national and global conversations on justice and drives meaningful social change. They provide students with exceptional education, mentorship and support, fostering a dynamic learning environment that prepares graduates for impactful and rewarding careers.

Their hard work and dedication have made a lasting impact, ensuring that John Jay continues to excel.

Our alumni are inspiring models for our students and are fierce advocates for justice in public service, the legal profession, STEM industry, law enforcement, public safety, education, forensics, community organizations and more. They are a testament to the transformative power of a John Jay education. Our community of partners, stakeholders and supporters invests their generosity and thought leadership to fuel the pioneering interventions, innovations and resources needed for our robust student support programs.

In commemoration of our 60th anniversary, we’re hosting the Educating for Justice Gala on May 6, 2025 to secure critical philanthropic support that will further cement our shared vision for student success. Also, to honor the collective success of our community, we’re planning a celebratory event for the John Jay community–please stay tuned for more details about this gathering.

United by a commitment to justice, our faculty, students, staff, alumni and partners will propel John Jay into the next 60 years and beyond.
