Throughout this challenging time, John Jay students, faculty, staff, and alumni have remained resilient and focused on the safety of our communities. Understanding that by practicing social distancing and wearing a mask, we could slow the spread of the virus; we’ve made wearing a mask a priority. “I wear a mask because I care for our neighbors, our campuses, and our state,” says CUNY Chancellor Félix V. Matos Rodríguez. “Rising Covid cases in some clusters reminds us that masking up is a key step towards returning to the vibrant campuses we love.” John Jay students wholeheartedly agree with the Chancellor, choosing to mask up. By participating in the #MaskUpCUNY campaign, our students are spreading more than awareness, they are championing a commitment to public safety. Here are some of the reasons why John Jay students continue to mask up.

I wear my mask because I have a three-month-old baby that I want to keep safe and healthy along with the rest of my family. I also wear a mask because public health is very important, and it is our duty to keep ourselves and the members of our communities safe.

I wear a mask because I have learned during quarantine to never take life for granted. My mask is a sign of respect for myself, my family, my community, and those affected and lost due to the Covid-19 virus.

I wear a mask because it’s a matter of public health and I want to keep the people around me and vulnerable members of my community safe. If we want to get this virus under control and slow the spread of Covid-19, we need to wear masks.
