Transfer Advisement

Welcome John Jay Transfer Students!

new transfer student

Congratulations on choosing an award-winning CUNY college to finish your baccalaureate degree!

We are so happy you are here and want you to know that we are committed to making your transition to John Jay College and your remaining stay here as stress-free and fun as possible.  We are here to help you navigate every step of your academic journey.

BEFORE You receive communication from Admissions that your credits have been evaluated

Advisement and registration for the fall semester begins early May
Advisement and registration for the spring semester begins early December

  • Submit final transcripts from any non-CUNY institutions attended to the Testing and Evaluation Office. This does not happen automatically. An up-to-date credit evaluation is critical for accurate advisement and course registration.

  • Begin to review your major requirements on the Major Resources Pages

AFTER You receive communication from Admissions that your credits have been evaluated
Your transfer credits will be viewable on your CUNYfirst student account and you may begin the academic advising and registration process.  Take action as soon as possible!  Advisement appointments and courses fill-up quickly.

Major Advising
It is very important for you to receive major advising as soon as possible after your transfer credits have been evaluated, so you know even before your first semester exactly what requirements you still need for your desired major! See John Jay’s Major Resources Pages for major advising information and many tips about planning ahead to graduate on time.
