Cynthia Nayeli Carvajal serves as the Immigrant Student Success manager at John Jay College. She is dedicated to supporting student growth and success for undocumented and immigrant students. Originally from Guadalajara, Mexico, she immigrated to the East Los Angeles, CA when she was 5 years old. For the next 14 years of her life, she remained in the U.S. as an undocumented immigrant. Upon receiving permanent residency, she went on to attend UCLA and continued her education at Teachers College, Columbia University. She is currently overseeing educational services, programs, and logistics for the inaugural center and working towards her PhD from the University of Arizona. Cynthia hopes to create educational services, networks of support, and action-oriented steps to advocate for undocumented and immigrant students in John Jay College and the greater New York City area.

Yessenia is the Legal Advocate at the Immigrant Student Success Center. She recently graduated from John Jay College with a Bachelors in Latin American Studies and a minor in Human Services. While at John Jay, Yessenia took part in CUNY Service Corps where she participated in the Unaccompanied Latin American Minor project, which focuses on providing academic, social and legal support to recently arrived immigrant minors in immigration/deportation proceedings. As a Peer Success Coach with the Student Academic Success Programs, Yessenia supported incoming Latinx freshman who were learning to navigate higher education for the first time. Native to Mexico City, she came to NYC at the age of 7. Yessenia's passion for educating and empowering undocumented communities has given her the motivation to continue working alongside undocumented immigrants at the first Immigrant Student Success Center in the CUNY system. Yessenia looks to continue furthering her education into a Masters of Social Work as well as her efforts in supporting the same communities that supported her with the expertise and skills gained.

Karina is the Administrative Assistant at the Immigrant Student Success Center. Currently, she is a senior persuing a Bachelors in Forensic Psychology with a minor in Latin American Sudies. She also served as the President of JJDREAMers club on campus from 2018-2019. Karina is from Morelos, Mexico and immigrated to New York at the age of two with her parents. Since then has lived in Yonkers, New York where she has established roots within her community through organizing and pushing policies to protect undocumented individuals and families. Karina hopes to get her Master Degree to continue helping communities and to push for even bigger change in New York State and throughout the country.
