A variety of undergraduate programs are available to meet the needs of students who wish to pursue careers in the fields of fire protection, firefighting, and security management. Coursework in the fire science field includes technical classes on topics such as the design of water-based suppression systems, fire behavior, and building construction. For those who wish to pursue a career in the fire service, we offer several fire service management classes. We also offer up-to-date courses in the security field as well, including classes on the security of computers, energy, art and cultural institution security, financial and banking security, security methods and new trends and innovations in the private security industry.
In addition, our one-of-a-kind Protection Management Graduate Program allows students to specialize in one of the following areas: fire protection, security management, or emergency management - while still completing coursework in the other two disciplines to provide a well-rounded understanding of this unique field of study. Recently launched is the department's fully online Master's degree in Security Management.
Our faculty are experienced practitioners who bring their cutting edge expertise into the classroom, providing students with the latest information in these rapidly changing fields. The department is also home to the Christian Regenhard Center for Emergency Response Studies and the Center for Private Security and Safety which recently launched.
