Leadership Opportunities
The Center for Student Involvement & Leadership offers many paid and unpaid leadership opportunities for John Jay students. These opportunities are geared towards various demogrpahics of students: from students looking to understand their place in the pond of leadership, to seasoned veterans who are used to empowering their peers. Below are a list of our leadership programs, and how you can get involved in each of them!
Trailblazers Leadership Program

This series is designed for incoming students who would like to advance their leadership skills and begin learning more about themselves. This program will help new students discover their talents, accelerate their leadership journey, provide tools and resources necessary to be an effective leader. Sessions are traditionally held during Community Hour (1:40-2:55pm) across the academic year. This is a paid opportunity.
Readiness Series

This program is targeted to juniors and seniors who want to strengthen their skillset and prepare them for life after college. Participants will gain experience on establishing a professional network, how to pitch themselves, learn their strengths, work on team dynamics and learn the basics needed for professional communication. Sessions are traditionally held during the Spring semester.
Civic Engagement Corps

Through this program, students will examine what it means to be a civically engaged citizen through coursework, project-based learning/activities. Students will hone in on their leadership skills, plan civic engagement events and develop written and communication skills. Corps members will provide peer support to their fellow students, enhance engagement opportunities on campus, organize social media campaigns to enhance civic awareness, engage with students to enhance their awareness of the importance in being civically engaged and host activities/events for students to demonstrate their civic responsibilities.
Peer Ambssadors

This program is dedicated to providing a comprehensive student leadership opportunity that fosters professional and personal development and encourages students to create leadership identities as individuals and as member of a team. Peer Ambassadors assist the Office of Student Transition Programs in events such as Orientation, Commencement, and other related activities. This is a paid opportunity that is traditionall filled in the Fall semester.
Federal Work Study

Through the FWS program, students can work within the Center for Student Involvement & Leadership as front desk associates and file clerks. FWS students are employed within the office to help greet students, screen calls, and assist the staff. These are positions that are offered to students who are eligible for workstudy. If you are unsure if you are eligible, contact the Financial Aid office.
Student Executives

Every student organization must have a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer to stay within compliance in the Center for Student Involvement & Leadership. These positions are elected by John Jay students, and work closely with the staff of CSIL to provide programs and educational content to the students of the College. Elections are traditionally held in April and May, and last for the following academic year.
LIDS

This program is a retreat experience that is tailored to John Jay students who wish to expand their already-growing leadership skills and qualities. LIDS focuses on four pillars including leadership, integrity, diversity and service. LIDS is a paid opportunity and takes place over Spring Break every academic year.
College Assistants

The College Assistant(s) is a position within the Center for Student Involvement and Leadership that aids in the day-to-day activities of the office. CAs will assist with programming, administrative paperwork, shipping and receiving, among other duties. This is a part-time, paid position within the office, and is typically filled at the beginning of each academic year.
