February 3, 2011 Dear Students, Faculty and Staff of John Jay College: I am pleased to write to you to provide details regarding the graduation ceremonies that we are planning for our students who will receive their degrees this academic year. It is hard to believe, but we are less than six months from the end of the school year and the celebrations that mark the awarding of degrees to our students. As you may know, we will not be able to hold our graduation ceremonies in Madison Square Garden’s WAMU Theater for the next three years because the Theater is undergoing renovations. In light of this reality, the Events Team has done extensive research over the past six months and considered a dozen alternative venues. I am delighted to announce that our 2011 Graduation will be held on Friday, June 3rd at the Jacob Javits Center North at 40th Street and Eleventh Avenue. This is a brand new, large and impressive facility that is a convenient location for our community. There will be two graduation ceremonies – one at 10:30 am and one at 3:30 pm – duplicating the timing of the successful ceremonies held last year. At this point in time, we are able to promise each student three (3) tickets for family members and friends. In the coming weeks, we will be furnishing you with more details on Graduation. Please mark June 3rd on your calendars and begin making plans for this important ceremony. If you are planning to attend, you must file for Graduation by March 23, 2011. Please refer any student-related questions or concerns to Student Affairs at 646.557.4888 or graduation@jjay.cuny.edu and faculty-related questions or concerns to Maribel Perez at 212.237.8802 or mperez@jjay.cuny.edu. For my part, I look forward to this festive celebration and to shaking the hands of each of our graduates as they walk across the stage of Jacob Javits Center North. Sincerely, Jeremy Travis
