NYPD Leadership Program - Police Officer Scholarship

The NYPD Leadership Program is a scholarship for active NYPD Uniform Members of the Service (UMOS) police officers and supervisors.  The scholarship covers tuition and textbook costs for four college courses (12 credits total).  The program is designed for undergraduate and graduate non-degree students interested in earning a degree.
  • Guaranteed acceptance to John Jay College as an undergraduate student or graduate non-degree student
  • Undergraduate students may receive up to $4,000 in scholarship awards and graduate non-degree students may receive up to $5,500 in scholarship awards.  All scholarship awards are applied to the tuition, technology fees and textbook costs for four classes (12 credits total)
  • Undergraduate students may receive up to 29 transfer credits for basic academy training, up to 68 from a community college, and up to 90 from a senior college (students may not exceed 90 transfer credits from all sources) 
  • Undergraduate students are exempt from meeting the general admission criteria and are automatically enrolled in a bachelor's degree program
  • Receive a Certificate of Completion after completing the program
  • Apply credits earned in the NYPD Leadership Program toward a bachelor's or master's degree program at John Jay College (click here for additional information)
  • Police officer rankings are eligible for an additional tuition waiver when registering for a course outside of the NYPD Leadership Program (may only be used one time) 



The Program courses meet once a week on Fridays at John Jay College.  Courses are offered during morning, afternoon and evening times in the fall and spring semesters.  Students may register for up to two courses per semester.  

The program is taught by full time and part time faculty members who bring a wealth of knowledge into the classrooms.  The faculty members are academics and practitioners who have extensive experience and research in law enforcement, race and ethnic diversity, police community relations and issues relating to crime and justice.  You may click here to learn more about the professors teaching in the program.


All active NYPD UMOS police officers and supervisors of any ranking are eligible for the NYPD Leadership Program.
