Please note that all 2011/12 Scholarships for entering transfer students have been awarded. Those interested in applying for transfer students scholarships for the 2012/13 Academic Year should visit this page again in early Spring 2012. You must be officially accepted to the College before applying for scholarships. You will be contacted by the Scholarships Office if you meet the requirements to apply for any or all of the below opportunities.
Computer Science and Forensic Science Scholarship
Undergraduate students pursing Computer Information Systems or Forensic Science are eligible to apply for a special scholarship opportunity. This program was made possible by the Department of Science and the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. Funding is provided by a grant from the National Science Foundation.
Scholarship amount: Scholarships are based on financial need. The maximum award amount is $4,000 per academic year. Scholarships are renewable yearly, depending on academic performance, continued financial need, and availability of funds. To determine financial need, please file for financial aid at: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/.
Eligibility: To be eligible for a scholarship a student must:
- Officially declare a major in computer science or forensic science
- Be a U.S. Citizen or a Permanent Resident of the United States (International and Undocumented students are not eligible)
For Entering Transfer:
- Have a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average
- Strong grades in mathematics and science courses

Kevin Maher Memorial Scholarship
This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a new transfer student with a GPA of 3.0 who can document proof of public service.
To apply, you must complete the John Jay General Scholarship Application and submit a 500-word essay. In your essay, please describe what events and/or issues led you to pursue a career in public service and how you hope your studies will better prepare you to excel. Two letters of recommendation are also required.
Transfer Student Scholarship
If you have earned at least 45 credits and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 at your previous institution(s), you may be eligible for the Transfer Student Scholarship of $1,000.
If you have earned at least 45 credits and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 at your previous institution(s), you may be eligible for the Transfer Student Scholarship of $1,000.
To apply, you will need to complete the John Jay General Scholarship Application and write a 500-word essay. In your essay, please discuss the following:
- Why you chose to transfer to John Jay College of Criminal Justice
- What aspects of John Jay’s curriculum you liked
- What your professional aspirations are
You must also submit a student copy of your transcript(s) from each college previously attended with this application.
Eligibility is limited to those students entering in the Fall 2011 semester.
